I am a qualified counsellor with an NCFE Diploma in Counselling and a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory from Sunderland College, UK.

I offer confidential, non-judgemental one to one counselling to adults and young people aged 11 upwards.

I can provide support on a range of issues including stress, bereavement, depression, anxiety, anger, problems at work, school, or in relationships, bullying, assertiveness and confidence building, self-harm, trauma, suicidal feelings, emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

My approach is person-centred/humanistic. I subscribe to the ethical guidelines of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the IACP (Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I was employed by Streetwise in Newcastle upon Tyne to counsel young people aged 11 to 25. My post included a secondment as school counsellor at Walker Technology College where I also ran after-school drama workshops for young people to help raise self-esteem and combat bullying. I worked in five 'feeder' primary schools promoting positive mental health, training staff, and running workshops for children with behavioural and learning difficulties. A further secondment involved co-facilitating a group for young adults with histories of self-harm at NACRO

My experience includes counselling adults affected by sexual abuse for Someone Cares, and asylum seekers and refugees at Freedom from Torture. I had a private practice in the NE seeing clients with a variety of issues.

I was a play therapist for Place2Be at Easington Colliery Primary School, Co. Durham.

I delivered drama workshops to vulnerable young women in Newcastle to raise awareness about mental health for Glasshouse Arts at Them Wifies, a women's community arts organisation on Tyneside.

I ran a support group on behalf of Tin Productions for the Clown Doctors and was invited to sit on the Steering Group.

A professional writer, theatre practitioner and lecturer, I am able to use a range of creative approaches where appropriate, and have extensive experience of facilitating creative writing and drama groups for adults and young people with mental health problems and disadvantaged backgrounds.
