Synopsis: Being a parent is arguably the most important job you'll ever have, but most of us are thrown in at the deep end. This play looks at how fashions in child-rearing have changed by following a family in the Southeast of England from Elizabethan times to the present. Are their descendants any better at bringing up baby? How do they cope with redundancy, mum being the main bread-winner, divorce, discipline, step-parents? Audiences are encouraged to question their rights and responsibilities as children and as parents. Funny, moving, fast and physical. Written for four actors with some cross-gender casting in mind. 'Grounded' was part of a theatre based residency day project for 13-16 year olds involving the production, interactive workshops and discussions. |
